Pupils take a walk back to the past

Pupils from Dyffryn Ardudwy Primary School  visited Byrllysg farm on 7th and 8th July to see the remains of a small Romano-British hill fort, a drovers’ road and the old farm house.  Later in the classroom, they used the Tithe maps to discover the ancient field names and compare the field shapes with those in the aerial photographs and Ordnance Survey Maps. Mrs Heather Jones told them a little about the history of the house and her husband’s family history.  They have lived at Byrllysg or in three neibouring farms for centuries.  They will follow this up with a visit to the Archives at Dolgellau on 11 July.
