Aerial photography

You may like to know more about the aerial photography on this website

The aerial photographs which are linked to the Ordnance Survey maps and the Tithe maps on this website are from Bluesky International Ltd with a licence for showing them on our website.  The images are supplied with Bluesky copyright
Ardudwy was filmed in 2006 and these photographs are at 1m Resolution Data.
The company also produces poster sized aerial photographs and the project is providing each of the participating schools with one of their chosen area.  Pupils will decide precisely which area of their parish is to be included and will do this on line.
The aerial photographs on the website will be particularly useful to schools because they are linked to the Ordnance Survey and Tithe maps in Ardudwy.  Pupils can move between the ‘layers’ to compare the farm and field boundaries of the ‘flat’ Tithe maps, with the contoured O.S maps and the 3D photographs.  It will be possible to relate the field names which refer to the type of land, with the physical landscape, rochs, marshes, woodland etc.  Pupils can develop the high level skills demanded in the National Curriculum using these resources, visits to sites and class work.  The project supports teachers and pupils through funding and assistance.
Members who attended the workshop on Archaeology and Aerial Photography given by Dr Toby Driver of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Momuments of Wales (RCAHMW) in May will also be able to make good general use of these maps.
Also on our website are vertical and oblique aerial photographs owned by the RCAHMW, many by Dr Toby Driver.  These show more detail.
The Royal Commission has an excellent library in its head quarters at Plas Crug, Aberystwyth.  It’s well worth a visit but telephone first to make arrangements.  They have supported this project from the start and their involvement is invaluable.
