How to use the maps

The first OS map you see will help you to see exactly where you are in Ardudwy. Zoom in until you see a larger scale map with field boundaries. Click on a field to see the name. You should also find a National Grid Reference in each screen, depending on where you place the mouse. This is a very useful tool. Then look at the aerial photograph and the Tithe map of the same area. Be patient, the maps and photographs may take time to upload.

Navigation

Single click and hold your mouse button down, on an area of the map and drag the mouse in the direction you wish to move.

Zoom

To zoom to a single point of a map double click on that point with your mouse.
Alternatively you can use your mouse wheel (if present) to zoom in and out.

To zoom in on an area, hold down shift and click the left mouse button and drag a box around the area you wish to zoom in on.

The Historic Environment Data (H.E.R)

The Gwynedd Archaeological Trust, very generously, has allowed us to show a very small part of their data in Ardudwy.  You will see the locations of some historic monuments.  They are grouped into three main bands according to general historical periods. Tick one or more of the periods you wish to see and they will appear on the maps.  To find out more about the Trust or the data, go to their website via our links.
